SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - Newberry senior Chandler Gruenemeier jumped up to fourth place in the individual standings, while the Wolves stood pat at seventh place after the second round of the 2013 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Championships at the Sevierville Golf Club's River Course on Monday.
The Wolves shot a 312 (+24) and are now +50 for the tournament entering Tuesday's final round.
Gruenemeier had five birdies in Monday's round and only had three holes over par on the day. He has a two-day total of 2-over par 146 and is 10 strokes behind Lincoln Memorial's Connor Froning, who still leads after setting a SAC record on Sunday.
Jon Weiss (Florence, S.C.) had two birdies on the way to a 76 (+4), placing him in a tie for ninth place at 150 (+6) after two days.
Dixon Walker (Lexington, S.C.) is in 41st with a 167 (+23) and Ewen Donaldson (Edinburgh, S.C.) is tied for 42nd with a 170 (+26). Tommy Hurst (Miami, Fla.) shot a 77 on the day, but was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard. His Tuesday round will still be eligible towards the Wolves' team score, though he will not receive an individual standing.
Newberry's final round will start at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, with the Wolves paired with golfers from Catawba. Live scoring can be followed at www.birdiefire.com/sac.
