SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - Jon Weiss and Chandler Gruenemeier are in the top 10 of the individual standings, while the Newberry Wolves are in seventh in the team standings after the first round of the 2013 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championships at the Sevierville Golf Club's River Course on Sunday.
Newberry shot a 26-over par 314 in the opening round. Lincoln Memorial shot a 1-under par 287 to hold the first day team lead thanks to a SAC Championships 64 (-8) from freshman Connor Froning.
Weiss (Sumter, S.C.) is tied for seventh in the tournament with a 2-over par 74. He had four birdies in the round, including three on the front nine.
Gruenemeier (Jacksonville, Fla.) had a tournament-best two eagles in his round as well as three birdies. His 3-over par 75 puts him in a tie for 10th place.
Dixon Walker (Lexington, S.C.) is tied for 37th with a 10-over par 82 with a team-best 10 pars, while Tommy Hurst (Miami, Fla.) is one stroke behind him in a tie for 41st with an 11-over par 83 and Ewen Donaldson (Edinburgh, Scotland) rounds out the Newberry team in 48th with an 18-over par 90.
