ROCK HILL - Newberry College men's golfers Chandler Gruenemeier and Jon Weiss have been named to the 2013 all-South Atlantic Conference teams, as announced by the conference office Thursday.
Gruenemeier (Jacksonville, Fla.) earns all-SAC honors for the second time in his career after being named first team and SAC Freshman of the Year in 2010. In his senior season, Gruenemeier has a stroke average of 73.4 with three top 10 finishes and six top 20 finishes. In eight events, Gruenemeier has not finished outside the top 25. He is on pace to finish his career as one of the top five golfers in program history, with a stroke average under 74.
Weiss (Sumter, S.C.) earns his first all-SAC honor with a season stroke average of 74.4. He had three top 10 finishes on the season, including a second place at the Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate, where a season low round of 67 helped him to a 2-under par finish over 36 holes. The Smoky Mountain event was played at the same Sevierville GC where next week's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference championships will take place.
The Wolves are on the hunt for the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship, and will be one of the favorites for that tournament, which will be played Sunday-Tuesday in Sevierville, Tenn.
