Wolves wrap up Mount Olive Spring Invitational in eighth place

GOLDSBORO, N.C. - The Newberry College men's golf team saw their scores rise as the Wolves closed out the Mount Olive Spring Invitational in eighth place at the Walnut Creek Country Club on Tuesday. The Wolves shot a 31-over par 607 for the 36-hole tournament.

The event is Newberry's final regular season tournament of the 2012-13 year and the Wolves now prepare for the 2013 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships on Sunday-Tuesday at the Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tenn.

Chandler Gruenemeier (Jacksonville, Fla.) was the Wolves' top finisher, tying for 13th with a 2-over par 146, while Tommy Hurst (Miami, Fla.) tied for 15th with a 3-over par 147.

Jon Weiss (Sumter, S.C.) tied for 28th with a 7-over par 151, Ewen Donaldson (Edinburgh, Scotland) tied for 68th with a 19-over par 163 and Layton Truax (Savannah, Ga.) was 81st with a 33-over par 177. Competing as an individual, Dixon Walker (Lexington, S.C.) tied for 42nd with a 10-over par 154.

Barton won the team title with a 3-over par 579 over two days, while Duke's Adam Sumrall won medalist honors with a 7-under par 137.
