LAKELAND, Fla. - The Newberry Wolves are in 14th place after two rounds at the 32nd Annual Matlock Collegiate Classic at the Lone Palm Golf Course. Newberry shot a combined 31-over par 607 in the tournament's first day, which saw the tournament and individual leaders set tournament records.
The Wolves will finish the tournament with the third and final round beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Chandler Gruenemeier (Jacksonville, Fla.) leads the Wolves after shooting a 5-over par 149 in the first two rounds to sit in a tie for 34th. Dixon Walker (Lexington, S.C.) is tied for 38th, one stroke behind Gruenemeier with a 6-over par 150.
Jon Weiss (Sumter, S.C.) is tied for 53rd with an 8-over par 152, Tommy Hurst (Miami, Fla.) is tied for 69th with a 13-over par 157 and Layton Truax (Savannah, Ga.) is in 74th with a 21-over par 165.
Florida Southern's Tim Crouch leads the tournament with a Classic 36-hole record of 12-under par 132. His 7-under 65 in the morning round was a Classic single round record and even par or better on Tuesday would break a 13-year old tournament overall record. As a team, Barry leads at 17-under par 559, marking the lowest Classic 36-hole total since LSU shot 20-under in 1989 and North Carolina was 20-under in 1985.
