NORMAN, Okla. - Newberry College's Matthew Campbell has been named to the Golf Coaches Association of America/PING Division II all-Southeast Region team for the second consecutive season it was announced Wednesday.
Campbell completed his career as the Newberry record-holder for all-time rounds played with 107 career rounds and a stroke average of 73.71, which ranks second in school and South Atlantic Conference history. His 72.68 season average is the fourth-best in school history and fifth-best in SAC history.
He was the 2012 South Atlantic Conference individual champion with a 1-under par 215 at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C., and then finished tied for 19th at the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional with a 4-over par 220 at the same course. He had six top 10 finishes in his senior season.
Campbell was the 2011 SAC Golfer of the Year and he earned all-SAC honors in all four of his collegiate seasons. His all-region honor is the fifth in program history and he is Newberry's second two-time honoree along with Daniel Stanley (2008, 2011). Ben Lown also earned all-region honors in 2008.
