CONOVER, N.C. - Newberry College senior Matthew Campbell (Rome, N.Y.) sits atop the leaderboard after 36 holes at the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships at Rock Barn's par 72, 6,944-yard Jones Course on Monday.
Campbell shot a 69-71=140 (-4) to hold a four stroke lead over Wingate's David Crawford and Antoine LeSaux. The Wingate Bulldogs lead the tournament at an even par 576, while the Wolves are in second place with a 27-over par 603.
The senior had 10 birdies scattered throughout his 36 holes, with only six bogeys and nothing worse. A Campbell victory would be Newberry's third straight SAC medalist and fourth in the last five seasons.
Freshman Jon Weiss (Sumter, S.C.) is tied for ninth with a 6-over par 150, including just 1-over par in the second round. Matthew Killen (Yorkshire, England) is in 24th with a 13-over par 157, while Chandler Gruenemeier (Jacksonville, Fla.) is tied for 25th one stroke behind him with a 14-over par 158. Jon Lussier (Barton, Vt.) is tied for 35th at a 17-over par 161.
The Wolves will complete the SAC Championships Tuesday in the final pairing with Wingate's golfers, starting with tee times at 9:20 a.m. [Tee Times]
