ROCK HILL, S.C. - Newberry College senior Matthew Campbell has been named to the All-South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf second team, as the league announced the annual awards today.
Campbell (Rome, N.Y.) earns all-SAC honors for the fourth consecutive season. He was the 2011 SAC Golfer of the Year and was on the second team in 2009 and 2010 as well. He is the second four-time all-SAC honoree in Newberry history behind 2011 graduate Daniel Stanley.
He is just one of four players in SAC golf history to card 100 career rounds, standing at 101 entering next week's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Golf Championships at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover, N.C. At the completion of the conference tournament, Campbell will tie with former Newberry teammate Ben Lown for the most career rounds in SAC history at 104.
On the season, Campbell has a stroke average of 72.7 with nine rounds below par. He finished the season with three top fives and five top 10s in nine events. He tied for second at the Honda of Columbia Fall Classic and the Rollins Invitational. His 68 in the third round at Rollins tied for the Wolves' lowest round of the season and he has five of the Wolves' top eight scores of the year.
