ORANGEBURG, S.C. - The Newberry Wolves finished in fourth place at the inaugural Magnolia Collegiate Invitational at the Orangeburg Country Club after the third and final round of play Tuesday. Newberry completed the 54-hole event with a 36-over par 888.
UNC Pembroke won the event with a 7-over par 859. USC Aiken was second with a 16-over par 868 and Barton was third with a 19-over par 871. UNCP's Jordan Walor and Jonathan McCurry and West Georgia's Bryn Powers tied for first with 2-under par 211, with Walor claiming medalist honors via a scorecard playoff.
Matthew Killen (Yorkshire, England) tied for sixth individually with a 3-over par 216, shooting a 1-over par 72 today with three birdies. His 216 is a personal season low in a 54-hole event.
Chandler Gruenemeier (Jacksonville, Fla.) finished in a tie for 17th with a 9-over par 222, while Jon Weiss (Sumter, S.C.) shot a 1-over par 72 on the way to a tie for 28th at a 14-over par 227. Jon Lussier (Barton, Vt.) tied for 40th with a 21-over par 234, while Matthew Campbell (Rome, N.Y.) withdrew with an injury and was unable to complete the event.
Five Wolves competed as individuals, with Dixon Walker (Lexington, S.C.) tying for 35th at a 19-over 232, Nick Lussier (Barton, Vt.) tying for 37th at a 20-over 233, Tommy Hurst (Miami, Fla.) finishing 43rd with a 22-over 235, John Paul Ferguson (Travelers Rest, S.C.) coming in 47th with a 27-over 240 and Ryan Wilkinson (Gallivants Ferry, S.C.) finishing 51st with a 33-over 246.
The Wolves return to action in two weeks at Lander's Golf Classic at Greenwood Country Club.
