COLUMBUS, Ga. - Another rough day saw the 19th-ranked Newberry College men's golf team finish the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational in 16th place after Tuesday's final round at the Country Club of Columbus' par-71 layout.
Newberry shot a three-round total of 906, 54 shots over par. Matthew Campbell (Rome, N.Y.) shot a 9-over par 222 to finish tied for 29th, leading the Newberry contingent.
Jon Lussier (Barton, Vt.) tied for 55th with a 15-over par 228, while Jon Weiss (Sumter, S.C.) tied for 63rd with a 17-over par 230. Ryan Wilkinson (Gallivants Ferry, S.C.) tied for 69th with a 19-over par 232 and Ben Firebaugh (Norfolk, Va.) rounded out the Wolves' golfers with a 32-over par 245 to tie for 84th.
Georgia Southwestern rallied on Tuesday to win the tournament over No. 3 Lynn by five strokes, shooting a 4-over par 856 for the event. The Hurricanes had the top three finishers in the event, including medalist Craig Gibson, who was 2-under for the 54 holes.
After a week off, the Wolves return to action on October 16-18 at the Tanglewood Intercollegiate in Clemmons, N.C.
