CHARLESTON, S.C. - The No. 14 Newberry College men's golf program is tied for 11th place after the completion of 36 holes at the Charleston Shootout on Monday.
The Wolves shot a two round team stroke total of 601 (295-306; +25) at the par-72, 6,922-yard Links at Stono Ferry golf course. Newberry is the only Division II institution in the field of 15 competing programs.
Baylor University is leading the shootout with a team score of 572 (285-287; -4) through 36 holes and has a five stroke lead over the College of Charleston (290-287=577; +1).
Individually, junior Matthew Campbell (Rome, N.Y.) is tied for 14th after day one with a 36 hole stroke total of 145 (68-77; +1). Campbell racked up nine birdies on Monday and an eagle on the par-5, fifth hole in the second round.
Senior Ben Lown (North Augusta, S.C.) shot a 150 (73-77; +6) and is tied for 37th while sophomore Brooks Massey (Lexington, S.C.) is tied for 45th after scoring a 152 (78-74; +8).
Sophomore Matthew Killen (Yorkshire, England) finished the first day with 154 strokes (76-78; +10) and is tied for 51st. Junior Jon Lussier (Burlington, Vt.) sits in 71st with a 164 (81-83; +20).
The Wolves will finish the Charleston Shootout with the final round at the Links at Stono Ferry on Tuesday morning.
