Wolves climb four spots to No. 14 in latest national poll

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Newberry College men's golf program moved up four spots to No. 14 in the first spring release of the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll released this week.

The Wolves earned 160 points and are sandwiched between two schools from Georgia, Columbus State University at No. 13 (188 points) and Valdosta State University at No. 15 (154 points).

California State University-Chico State hopped three spots to claim the No. 1 ranking with 386 points and five first place votes. Western Washington University is No. 2 with 369 points and five first place votes while Lynn University is No. 3 with four first place votes and 346 points. The University of North Alabama earned one first place vote and tallied 342 points at No. 4 and the University of West Florida is No. 5 with 328 points.

Newberry is the only South Atlantic Conference institution represented in the poll and one of two South Carolina programs represented in the top-25. USC Aiken is No. 25.

The Wolves have competed in one tournament during the spring schedule finishing in fifth place at the 15-team Matlock Collegiate Classic. Held at the Lone Palm Golf Club in Lakeland, Fla., the tournament featured 10 programs ranked in the top-25 in the latest poll.

Newberry will participate next at The Charleston Shootout in Charleston, S.C. on February 28-March 1.
