Stanley, James compete in Dixie Amateur

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Over the winter break, two Newberry College men's golfers participated in the 2010 Dixie Amateur Championship at the Heron Bay Golf Club from December 20-22. Senior Daniel Stanley and sophomore Shaw James each missed the cut for the final round.

Stanley (Inman, S.C.) racked up a two round stroke total of 147 (72-75) and missed the cut by three strokes. James (Charlotte, N.C.) shot 91-80 and completed the first 36 holes with a combined stroke total of 171.

Stanley had a terrific fall season with three top-10 placements including a tournament victory at the Will Wilson Southeast Regional Preview on October 17-19 in Clemmons, N.C. Shooting a 78 in the first round, Stanley rallied for a stellar final two rounds totaling just 133 strokes over the final 36-holes to finish with a 210, 1-over par, and on top of a field of 71 entrants.

James participated in one tournament during the fall semester with a 45th place finish at The Honda of Columbia Fall Classic on September 18 in Prosperity, S.C. James shot a 157 (83-74; +13).

Peter Uilein (Orlando, Fla.) won the Dixie Amateur for the second consecutive year with a three round total of 203 (67-70-66).
The Dixie Amateur originated in 1924 and has been held at the old Miami Country Club, the Bonaventure Resort, and currently at the Heron Bay Golf Club, the site of the PGA Tour's Honda Classic from 1997 to 2002.

The Newberry College Wolves return to golf action in the spring with five tournaments in Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina including the 2011 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships in Hickory, N.C. on April 11-12.
