Seventh best round in school history has Wolves in top spot after two rounds at Will Wilson Southeast Regional Preview

CLEMMONS, N.C. - The Newberry College Wolves shot a 2-over par 282 - the seventh-best round in school history - to take the tournament lead heading into the final day of the Will Wilson Southeast Regional Preview at the Tanglewood Park Champions Course. Newberry has shot a 17-over 577 through two rounds - the ninth-best 36-hole total in the history of Newberry men's golf.

Four Newberry golfers are in the tournament's top 11 players entering Tuesday's final round on the par-70 course. Chandler Gruenemeier (Jacksonville, Fla.) shot a 2-over 72 and stands in fourth place at 71-72=143 (+3) through the first two rounds.

Matthew Campbell (Rome, N.Y.) cut eight strokes off of his Sunday round and is in fifth place at 76-68=144 (+4).

Daniel Stanley (Inman, S.C.) and Brooks Massey (Lexington, S.C.) each had spectacular days, lowering their scores by substantial amounts.

Stanley improved on his Sunday round by 11 strokes Monday, shooting a 3-under par 67, marking the best round of the tournament thus far and tying him for the third-best round in school history. Massey, who is playing in the tournament as an individual, shot a career-low 69 (-1) on the day, cutting seven strokes from his Sunday round. Both players are tied for sixth with a 5-over par 145.

Matthew Killen (Yorkshire, England) sits in a tie for 24th place with an 8-over 148 and Ben Lown (North Augusta, S.C.) rounds out the Wolves' scores with an 11-over 151 in a tie for 39th place.

The Wolves are four strokes ahead of the second place team, Queens University, which shot a 286 today and is a total of four strokes behind Newberry. The two teams were tied for fourth after the first round. UNC Pembroke and Belmont Abbey are tied for third, seven strokes back.

The tournament concludes on Tuesday, with the Wolves in reach of their third tournament championship of the young season.
