HAMPTON, Ga. - The Newberry College men's golf program finished the final round of the 54-hole Laker Collegiate Invitational in fourth place on Tuesday.
The Wolves' three round combined stroke total of 872 (285-291-296; +8) trailed tournament champion University of North Alabama by 15 strokes (288-286-283=857; -7) at the end of Tuesday's play at the par-72, 7,107-yard Crystal Lake Golf Course.
Individually, senior Daniel Stanley (Inman, S.C.) completed all three rounds under par with a combined score of 212 (70-71-71; -4). Stanley racked up 12 birdies over 54 holes en route to his second top-10 placement of 2010-11.
Junior Matthew Campbell (Rome, N.Y.) tied for 15th with a two day stroke total of 219 (74-71-74; +1) while sophomore Trey Dennis (Moncks Corner, S.C.) tied for 19th after shooting a 221 (72-74-75; +3). Dennis had 38 made pars in the tournament.
Senior Ben Lown (North Augusta, S.C.) finished the tournament in a tie for 26th at 223 strokes (69-75-79; +5) and picked up an eagle. Junior Matthew Killen (Yorkshire, England) completed play with a score of 228 (75-77-76; +10).
In three tournaments to start the fall season, Newberry has three top-5 team placements and two tournament championships. The Wolves will next hit the links when the B-squad participates in the Tusculum Fall Classic in Greeneville, Tenn. on September 27-28.
