Over the summer, many members of the Newberry College men's golf team have been participating in amateur tournaments around the country. The Newberry Sports Information Department is pleased to bring you this final update.
Newberry rising junior Matthew Campbell (Rome, N.Y.) placed seventh in a field of 45 participants in the Collegiate Player's Tour (CPT) Championship at the Texas Star Golf Course in Euless, Texas. The three round competition was held last week on August 16-19 and completed the 2010 CPT season.
The CPT is a non-profit venture in its 17th year designed to provide summer golf competition to college-age men and women.
Campbell amassed a 54-hole stroke total of 214 to finish three strokes behind tournament champion Paul McConnell (Garland, Texas). After churning out a 72 in the first round, Campbell's second round 69 tied for the third lowest individual 18-hole score of the tournament. Campbell finished out the competition with a third round stroke total of 73.
The Newberry College golf team hits the links to kick off the 2010-11 season at The Rutgers University Invitational in New Brunswick, N.J. on September 10-11. The Wolves return to South Carolina seven days later to host The Honda of Columbia Fall Classic at the Mid-Carolina Club in Prosperity, S.C. on September 18.
