Over the summer, many members of the Newberry College men's golf team have been participating in amateur tournaments around the country. The Newberry College Sports Information Department is pleased to bring you this update.

Newberry rising seniors Daniel Stanley (Inman, S.C.) and Ben Lown (North Augusta, S.C.) competed at the South Carolina Golf Association (SCGA) Amateur Championship last week at the Columbia Country Club in Blythewood, S.C. Originally scheduled for 72 holes, the 2010 SCGA Championship was shortened to 54 holes due to rain.

Stanley tied for 16th place after firing a three round stroke total of 215 (71-74-70; +2) at the par-71, 7,133-yard course. With a top-20 placement, Stanley earns an automatic qualification for the 2011 SCGA Championship. Lown missed the cut for the final round, but shot a 77-77 in the first two rounds.

In Massachusetts, rising junior Matthew Campbell (Rome, N.Y.) earned a second alternate as a qualifier for the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championships. Campbell shot a 142 (72-70; -2) at the par-72 Andover Country Club in Andover, Mass.

Rising junior Jon Lussier (Burlington, Vt.) shot a 145 (73-72; +1) and tied for 8th in Agawam, Mass. At the Crestview Country Club.
