Scarlet and gray still in a tie for 16th after 36 holes at NCAA Super Regional

WILSON, N.C. - The Newberry College men's golf team remained tied for 16th place after the completion of Tuesday's second round in the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional in Wilson, N.C.

Newberry improved by six strokes from the first to the second round accumulating a team stroke total of 588 (297-291; +20). Despite a lower day two score, the scarlet and gray remained in a tie for 16th and trail 5th place Lander University by 16 strokes.

The top-5 teams and the top-2 student-athletes not with a team from each regional, regardless of region, will advance to the national tournament held on May 18-21 at The Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind. The finals will be hosted by the Indiana Sports Corporation, the University of Indianapolis, the Great Lakes Valley Conference, and the Hamilton County Sports Authority.

Lynn University and Barry University are tied for 1st after 36 holes. Lynn shot a 9-under par 275 on Tuesday to jump from 5th to the top spot with a two-day score of 564 (289-275; -4). Barry improved by two strokes to total 564 (283-281; -4).

Nova Southeastern University is in 3rd with a 565 (285-280; -3) and Florida Southern College sits in 4th at 1-under par (292-275=567). Lander holds the final qualifying spot heading into Wednesday's final round with a two round score of 572 (282-290; +4).

Individually, junior Ben Lown (North Augusta, S.C.) is tied for 51st with a two round total of 146 (76-70; +4). Sophomore Matthew Campbell (Rome, N.Y.) is tied for 57th after registering a 147 (72-75; +5) through 36 holes.

Junior Daniel Stanley (Inman, S.C.) tallied a 74 for the second consecutive round and totals 148 (74-74; +6) strokes on the tournament. Freshman Chandler Gruenemeier (Jacksonville, Fla.) finished play with a 148 (75-73; +6) and sits in a tie with Stanley for 62nd.

Senior Sean Collard (Gauteng, South Africa) is currently tied for 86th with a 152 (78-74; +10).

The final round of the NCAA South/Southeast Regional begins Wednesday morning. The tournament can be followed via live statistics provided by www.GolfStat.com. The scarlet and gray tee off at 8:20 a.m at the par-71, 6,839-yard Wilson Country Club.
