NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Newberry College men's golf program jumped back into the top-25 in the latest edition of the Golf World/Nike D-II Coaches' Poll released last week.

The scarlet and gray received 51 points and hold the No. 24 spot in the national poll. The University of Colorado-Colorado Springs edged Newberry out by one point at No. 23 while Newberry holds the same margin over Rollins College at No. 25.

The No. 1 team in the poll is Barry University with 360 points and five first place votes. Georgia College and State University accumulated 354 points and three first place votes for the No. 2 spot while Florida Southern College nabbed the No. 3 ranking with 326 points and two first place votes.

CSU-Chico State is No. 4 with 309 points and the University of North Alabama rounds out the top-5 with 303 points.

Newberry is one of two South Carolina institutions represented in the top-25, Lander University is No. 7, and the scarlet and gray are the only South Atlantic Conference member in the national poll.

Head coach Brian McCants' squad is coming off of a strong showing at the Bearcat Classic in Greenwood, S.C. on March 29-30. Newberry's Daniel Stanley (Inman, S.C.) picked up the individual tournament championship and the scarlet and gray finished in fourth place. Stanley, a junior, shot a school record 207, 9-under par, over 54 holes en route to his first collegiate victory.

Freshman Chandler Gruenemeier (Jacksonville, Fla.) finished just one stroke behind Stanley for a placement of second and a career best 8-under par tournament.

In eight tournaments this season, Newberry has picked up two tournament victories, four top-5 placements, and six top-10 placements. The scarlet and gray's tournament victories came back in September with back-to-back wins at The Honda of Columbia Fall Classic in Prosperity, S.C. and The State-Farm Laker Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.

Newberry is currently preparing for the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship held on April 19-20 at the Etowah Valley Golf Course in Hendersonville, N.C.
