INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Newberry College men's golf team is ranked seventh in the Southeast Region in the latest release of the NCAA Division II regional poll released by the Men's Golf Committee late last week.
The three conference champions along with seven at-large bids from the regional poll will qualify for the NCAA Super Regionals held in Wilson, N.C. on May 2-5.
Barton College of the Conference Carolinas is the top-ranked team in the Southeast Region according to the poll, which is comprised of member institutions from the Conference Carolinas, the Peach Belt Conference, and the South Atlantic Conference.
For the season, Newberry has four top-5 placements in nine tournaments for the spring including two tournament victories. The scarlet and gray won The 2009 Honda of Columbia Fall Classic on September 18-19 and just three days later won the 2009 State-Farm Laker Invitational on September 21-22.
The scarlet and gray will participate in the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship on April 19-20 at the Etowah Valley Country Club in Hendersonville, N.C. Newberry has won the SAC Championship two years in a row and another first place finish would automatically qualify Newberry for the Super Regional.
