SALISBURY, N.C. - The No. 23 Newberry College men's golf program finished in a three-way tie for 10th place after snowfall caused the cancellation of the second round at the Richard Rendleman Invitational hosted by Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C. Monday's first round scores are the final results.
The scarlet and gray shot a combined team stroke total of 301, 17-over par, in 18 holes at the par-71, 6,665-yard Country Club of Salisbury golf course. Newberry completed play 18 strokes behind tournament winner Lander University. The Bearcats shot a 1-under par round as a team with a 283.
Individually, junior Daniel Stanley (Inman, S.C.) tied for 10th place shooting an even par round of 72. Stanley required just 35 strokes on the back nine on Monday.
Five behind, but just one stroke shy of Stanley, freshman Chandler Gruenemeier (Jacksonville, Fla.) finished the tournament 1-over par with a 72. Gruenemeier also shot a 35 on the back nine and tied for 15th place.
Junior Ben Lown (North Augusta, S.C.) tied for 58th with a one round stroke total of 78, 7-over par. Sophomores Jon Lussier (Burlington, Vt.) and Matthew Campbell (Rome, N.Y.) tied for 69th with each shooting an 80 on Monday.
The individual tournament winner in the snow-shortened18-hole competition is Eric Kennedy of Lincoln Memorial University. Kennedy paced the field with a 4-under par round of 67.
Newberry will next be in action at The Bearcat Invitational hosted by Lander University in Greenwood, S.C. on March 29-30.
