PANAMA CITY, Fla. - The No. 23 ranked Newberry College men's golf team finished in fourth place after the completion of the second and final round on Tuesday at the Outback Intercollegiate in Panama City, Fla.

The scarlet and gray shot a 300, 12-over par, and were tied for second place after the first day, but Newberry required nine more strokes to finish Tuesday's round. Finishing with a team stroke total of 609 (300-309; +33), head coach Brian McCants' squad finished one stroke behind third place Columbus State University.

The Outback Intercollegiate was hosted by Catawba College and held at the par-72, 6,541-yard Hombre Golf Club. Among six South Atlantic Conference member institutions in a field of 15, the scarlet and gray's two round score was the lowest.

Winning the tournament with a 20-stroke buffer, Flagler College rolled to a first place finish with a team stroke total just 4-over par (285-295=580).
Individually, sophomore Matthew Campbell (Rome, N.Y.) tied for eighth place shooting 6-over par, 150 strokes, in 36 holes of action. Campbell shot an even par 72 on the first day and followed up with a 78 on Tuesday.

Fellow sophomore Matthew Killen (Yorkshire, England) picked up his first collegiate top-10 placement with a two round score of 151 (75-76; +7). Killen tied for 10th place and registered an eagle. Campbell also picked up an eagle in the tournament.

Freshman Chandler Gruenemeier (Jacksonville, Fla.) tied for 25th and garnered a tournament-high 10 birdies. Gruenemeier finished the tournament with a stroke total of 156 (77-79; +12). Senior Sean Collard (Gauteng, South Africa) tied for 44th after shooting a 159 (83-76; +15) while junior Ben Lown (North Augusta, S.C.) tied for 44th with a 162 (76-86; +18).

The individual tournament champion was Joel Dahlenburg of Flagler College. Dahlenburg shot a 3-under par 141, including a 69 on Tuesday.

Newberry men's golf will hit the links again next on February 15-16 at the Matlock Intercollegiate in Lakeland, Fla.
