BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Newberry College men's golf program is ranked 1st in the country amongst Division II institutions according to www.golfstat.com in head-to-head standings with a calculated record of 149-0.
Golfstat Inc. is a company hired by the NCAA to administer the computer rating used by the NCAA Championship selection committes for all divisions of NCAA men's and women's golf.
With two tournament victories to start the 2009-10 campaign, Newberry has racked up a 13-0 record against top-25 teams and has an average adjusted scoring rate of 69.61. Of the top-10 teams listed in the poll, nine are Super Regional opponents and Newberry has defeated seven of those opponents at either the Honda of Columbia Fall Classic or the State-Farm Laker Invitational.
While the Newberry-hosted Honda of Columbia Fall Classic resulted in broken team and individual records, the scarlet and gray's performance at the State-Farm Laker Invitational was paramount in boosting Newberry to the number one spot.
In a tremendous start to the season, Newberry has four consecutive under par team rounds and has set or tied three school records. The next tournament for the scarlet and gray will be a B-team tournament September 28-29 at the Tusculum Fall Invitational.
