NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College men's golf program and head coach Brian McCants are pleased to announce the release of the fall schedule for 2009. The schedule features five tournaments in four different states beginning in mid-September and wrapping up in mid-October.

The scarlet and gray will begin play on September 18-19 with the fifth annual Honda of Columbia Classic held at the Mid-Carolina Club in Prosperity, S.C. Newberry has defended the home course well in previous years, winning the tournament the past three seasons. Newberry has also boasted the individual tournament champion twice.

Immediately following the completion of The Honda of Columbia Classic, Newberry will embark on the first road trip of the season trekking to the capital of the Peach State. The scarlet and gray hit the links on September 20-22 at The Laker Invitational hosted by Clayton State University at the Crystal Lake Golf Course in Atlanta, Ga.

Head coach Brian McCants will then take his B-squad to Greeneville, Tenn. to compete in The Tusculum Fall Invitational on September 27-29 at the Link Hills Country Club. This will be the second consecutive year that the scarlet and gray will compete in the tournament hosted by Tusculum College. The 2008-09 edition of the Newberry College B-squad brought home a fifth place finish and freshman Ryan Madigan (Waterford, Ireland) tied for second place individually.

On October 4-6, Newberry will again venture to the state of Georgia, but further west to the city of Columbus, Ga. The scarlet and gray will take part in The Cougar Invitational at the Green Island Country Club.

The final stop on the fall schedule takes Newberry to Greensboro, N.C. for The Division II Southeast Region Preview on October 17-20 at the Tanglewood Golf Course. The Division II Southeast Region Preview field will consist of region opponents and will be a stout test for the scarlet and gray as Newberry wraps up the fall portion of the schedule.

The NCAA Division II men's golf season consists of both fall and spring portions with conference championships and postseason play taking place at the end of the spring. To view the Newberry College men's golf fall season schedule, please click here.
