The Newberry College men's golf program, 2009 South Atlantic Conference champions, continues to experience success even during the offseason. Many current and incoming Newberry golfers have participated in amateur tournaments throughout the summer with stellar results.

INMAN, S.C. - Rising junior and two-time All-SAC performer Daniel Stanley (Inman, S.C.) hammered out a 69, three-under par, in the final round of the Coca-Cola Spartanburg County Men's Amateur on Sunday to win the tournament for the second year in a row. Stanley completed the tournament 12-under par with a three round score of 204 (70-65-69) on the Woodfin Ridge Country Club in Inman, S.C.

Stanley just missed qualifying for the South Carolina Amateur after shooting a 73 at Three Pines Country Club in Woodruff, S.C. Stanley needed a 72 to qualify.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Incoming freshman Brooks Massey (Lexington, S.C.) is the only Newberry golfer who successfully qualified for the South Carolina Amateur. Massey churned out a 69, three-under par, at Oak Hills Country Club in Columbia, S.C. to tie for medalist honors. Massey was defeated in a playoff hole by Columbia native Det Cullum.

John Allen Meetze (Chapin, S.C.), a junior this fall, competed in Columbia and finished his tournament with a round of 80, eight-over par.

MANNING, S.C. - In more qualifying, rising sophomore Drew Falvey (Murrells Inlet, S.C.), rising junior Stephen Holmes (Chapin, S.C.), incoming freshman Trey Dennis (Moncks Corner, S.C.) all attempted to qualify for the South Carolina Amateur at the Wyboo Golf Club in Manning, S.C. All three missed the cut, but Falvey shot a 74 while Holmes and Dennis each shot a 77.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Two incoming freshmen from the state of Florida, Chandler Gruenemeier (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Kevin Britton (Palm City, Fla.) have each had successful summers. Gruenemeier recently won the Jacksonville Area Golf Association City Junior after shooting a marvelous 136 (66-70; -8) in the two-day tournament that wrapped up July 15. Powered by an eagle on the par-5 10th hole of the Ponte Vedra Golf and Country Club, Chandler edged out the competition by three strokes. With his tournament victory, Gruenemeier will join the field for the 2009 Jacksonville City Amateur that begins on Thursday, July 23 and runs through July 26.

Earlier this month, Gruenemeier and Britton competed at the Florida State Boys Junior tournament. Chandler finished the tournament in fifth place after a three round score of 222 (79-73-70). Britton shot a 234 (80-78-76).

In June, Britton qualified for and competed in the Florida Amateur at TPC Sawgrass, but missed the cut after registering a two round score of 155 (73-82).

VICTOR, N.Y. - Rising sophomore Matthew Campbell (Rome, N.Y.) finished in a tie for fifth place at the New York Amateur that wrapped up four rounds of play on July 16. Campbell shot a one-over par, 289 (73-70-74-72).
