FLORENCE, Ala. - The Newberry College men's golf team is in 16th place after the second round of the 2009 NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional was completed at the Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals course on Tuesday afternoon.

The scarlet and gray shot a 310, 22-over par, in the second round and trail tournament leader Lynn University by 31 strokes. Newberry's two round score of 603 (293-310; +27) is 18 strokes behind fifth place Columbus State University. The top five teams from the Super Regional will advance to the 2009 NCAA Division II National Championship in Findlay, Ohio on May 13-16.

Individually, sophomore Ben Lown (North Augusta, S.C.) is in a tie for 30th place with a two round score of 147 (72-75; +3).

Fellow sophomore Daniel Stanley (Inman, S.C.) is tied for 53rd with a 150 (73-77; +6) and South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year Matthew Campbell (Rome, N.Y.) is tied for 71st at nine over par (71-82=153; +9).

Junior Brandon Burnside (North Augusta, S.C.) is 15-over par (83-76=159; +15) and tied for 94th while sophomore Stephen Holmes (Chapin, S.C.) had a two round score of 162 (77-85; +18) and in 100th place.

The tournament's individual leader is Lynn University's Chris Goldan at six under par (67-71=138).

Following the three rounds of the Super Regional competition, the top five teams and the top two individuals not with a team from each super regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 19-22 at Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Wash. The finals will be hosted by Western Washington University.
