Newberry men's golf receiving votes in coaches' poll

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Newberry College men's golf received 62 points in the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll released earlier this week. The 62 points fell just three shy of a top-25 ranking by three points.

In the 2008 fall season, Newberry has competed in three tournaments including a first place finish at The Honda of Columbia Classic on September 13. The scarlet and gray also placed fifth at The Kiawah Island Invitational on September 9 and ninth place at The Coker College Invitational in Orlando, Fla. on September 23.

Newberry has two tournaments left on the fall schedule. The scarlet and gray travel to Greeneville, Tenn. on September 29-30 to compete in The Tusculum College Fall Invitational and then to Hilton Head, S.C. in mid-October to battle in The Queens University of Charlotte Invitational.

The University of West Florida is the top-ranked team according to the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll. The Argonauts received seven first place votes and totaled 357 points.

Newberry is the only South Atlantic Conference school to receive points.
