Men's Golf in 19th spot after third round at NCAA National Tournament

HOUSTON, Texas - The Newberry College men's golf team slipped one spot to 19th place following the third round of the 2008 NCAA National Tournament at the par-70, 7,158-yard Memorial Park Golf Course. The Indians shot a 23-over par 303 for a three-day total of 883 (+43).

Freshman Ben Lown (North Augusta, S.C.) shot a 2-over par 72 for the lowest round by a Newberry player Friday. His 73-70-72=215 (+5) is Newberry's lowest score and ties him for 30th individually.

Freshman Daniel Stanley (Inman, S.C.) shot a 5-over par 75, pushing his three-day total to 68-78-75=221 (+11) and a tie for 71st place individually. Freshman Stephen Holmes (Chapin, S.C.) was one stroke behind Stanley in the third round with a 6-over par 76. Holmes' 71-77-77=225 (+15) places him in a tie for 89th.

Sophomore Brandon Burnside (North Augusta, S.C.) carded a 9-over par 79, while freshman John Allen Meetze (Chapin, S.C.) came in at 11-over with an 81.

The Scarlet and Gray will wrap up the National Tournament with Saturday's fourth and final round. Newberry will start at the 10th tee at 8:20 a.m. local time, which is 9:20 a.m. in Newberry. The Indians will be grouped with golfers from Bryant and Sonoma State. Fans can follow the team with live scoring updates at www.golfstat.com.
