Indians tied for fifth after first round of Richard Rendleman Invitational

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Newberry College men's golf team is tied for fifth place following the first round of play at the Richard Rendleman Invitational hosted by Catawba College. The Indians combined for a 395 on the par 71, 6,665-yard course at the Country Club of Salisbury.

Freshman Daniel Stanley (Inman, S.C.) is tied for third place individually after shooting a two-under par 34-35=69. Ben Lown (North Augusta, S.C.) is tied for 25th with a round of 40-34=74 (+3).

Stephen Holmes (Chapin, S.C.) is in a tie for 35th place at 4-over (37-38=75), while John Allen Meetze (Chapin, S.C.) is tied for 53rd at 6-over and Brandon Burnside (North Augusta, S.C.) rounds out the Newberry competitors in a tie for 59th spot at 7-over.

The Indians are in a three-way tie for fifth with Carson-Newman and Belmont Abbey, but are only one stroke out of fourth and five strokes out of third place. USC Aiken leads the pack with a first round 284, 11 strokes ahead of Newberry.

The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.
