Indians in 10th place after day one of Kiawah Invitational

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. Ė The Newberry College menís golf team finished the first round of the Kiawah Invitational in Kiawah Island, S.C. in 10th place after shooting a collective 298 on the par 72 course.

The Indians are fifteen strokes off the lead, behind Oklahoma Christian Universityís five-under par performance. Armstrong Atlantic State University stands second, followed by a tie for third between host University of  South Carolina-Aiken and the University of North Alabama.

Individually, Indian freshman Daniel Stanley (Inman, S.C.) finished the day tied for fifth place after shooting two-under par for a 70. John Allen Meetze (Chapin, S.C.), also a freshman, was the next best Indian tied for ninth place after a round of 74. Freshman Ben Lown (North Augusta, S.C.) is tied for 11th place, sophomore Brandon Burnside (North Augusta, S.C.) is tied for 15th, and junior Billy Burrows (Bluffton, S.C.) is tied for 17th.

Oklahoma Christianís Fernando Gonzales leads the tournament after shooting a 65, seven-under par, on day one. Round two of the tournament will commense on Tuesday.
