Indian Golfers participate in South Carolina Amateur

FLORENCE, S.C. - Five Newberry College men's golfers participated in the 76th South Carolina Amateur at the Country Club of South Carolina over the weekend. Incoming freshman Ben Lown and rising junior Colby Hyduke had the best scores of the Newberry golfers. Clemson's Luke Hopkins won the tournament.

Lown (North Augusta, S.C.) shot 72-74-71-79=296 to finish in a tie for 28th place, while Hyduke (Bennettsville, S.C.) shot 78-74-75-74=301 for 42nd place tie.

Indians who did not make the cut were Billy Burrows (Bluffton, S.C.) 76-78, Daniel Stanley (Inman, S.C.) 78-79, and Harold Turner (Sumter, S.C.) 84-78.

"We are so grateful that these young men represented the golf program in such a fine fashion," said head men's golf coach Brian McCants. "I canít wait to finally get these guys on campus in two weeks and begin preparations for what should be a terrific 2007-08 year."
