Indians Finish Fifth at Food Lion SAC Championships

HICKORY, N.C. – The Newberry men’s golf team shot a +37 613 to finish in fifth place at the 2007 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships held at the par 72-6,610 yard Lake Hickory Country Club.

Sophomore Billy Burrows paced the Indians with a two-round total of 152 to finish tied for 11th-place.  Colby Hyduke and senior Hunter Mengel followed with a 153 and 154 respectively, which was good for a tied at 15th and 18th place.  Charles Wagner and Daniel Lee rounded out the Newberry scoring with a 155 and 158 respectively.

Tusculum College’s Chase Carroll won medalist honors shooting an even-par 144 to win by one stroke over Presbyterian College’s Ben Karns.  Both Carroll and Karns were named to the All-Tournament Team along with Carroll’s teammate Chris Wynne and Lenoir-Rhyne College’s Kyle Shelvin.

The two-day, 54-hole championship was shortened to 36-holes on Tuesday due to dangerous wind conditions on Monday.
