Indians Fifth at Carolina Sands Intercollegiate

WHITE LAKE, N.C. - The Newberry College men's golf team shot a first round 295 to finish day one in fifth place at the Carolina Sands Intercollegiate at the par 72 6,925 yard Carolina Sands Golf Club on Saturday.

Lander University is currently in first place, shooting a first round total of 280.  Barton College follows with a 289 while Catawba College and the host school UNC Pembroke checks in at third and fourth place with a 291 and 292 respectively.

The Indians also fielded a "B" for the tournament with that squad currently sitting in seventh place out of 14 teams with a 304. 

Individually for Newberry, Charles Wagner leads the "A" squad with an even par 72 to go into the clubhouse after day one in a tie for eighth place.  Colby Hyduke follows with a 73, good for a tie in 14th place.

For the Indian "B" squad, senior Brian Rush shot a 73 to finish the first tied for 14th place.  Brandon Burnside follows with a 76, good for a tie at 31st place.

The tournament will wrap-up tomorrow with second round play beginning on Sunday morning.
