Men's Golf Ninth at AASU/Southbridge Pirate Invitational

SAVANNAH, Ga. Ė The Newberry College menís golf team shot a first round 304 to finish day one in ninth place at the AASU/Southbridge Pirate Invitational on Monday at the par 72, 6,922 yard Southbridge Golf Club in Savannah, Ga.

Three teams share the lead with a score of 294.  The teams tied at the top are GCSU, Lander, and USC Upstate.

Individually for Newberry, a quartet of Indians in Hunter Mengel, Billy Burrows, Colby Hyduke and Charles Wagner each shot four-over par 76ís to finish the first round all tied in 27th place.  Daniel Lee rounded out the Newberry scoring, shooting an 81.

Jason Flowers of Valdosta State leads the pack with a four-under par 68.  Jake Amos of Lander shot a three-under-par 69, while Cokerís Jimmy Gillam is two strokes back after a two-under-par 70.

Play concludes on Tuesday in the 12-team field with tee times beginning at 7:52 a.m.
