Indians Finish 13th at Presbyterian Intercollegiate

CLINTON, S.C. – The Newberry College men’s golf team finished 13th with a two-day total of 644 at the Presbyterian College Intercollegiate which was held at the par-72, 6,834 yard Musgrove Mill Golf Course on Tuesday.

Georgia College & State University took home the team title, shooting a two-round total of 598.  Host school Presbyterian finished in second place with a 600.

Individually for the Indians, senior Hunter Mengel turned in a top 25 performance, finishing 25th by shooting a 155.  Senior Daniel Lee shot a 160 for a 39th-place finish.  Colby Hyduke followed with a 166 while a pair of freshmen in Brandon Burnside and Sean Collard each shot 167 and 175 respectively.

Presbyterian’s Rob Varner took home medalist honors by winning the tournament on the first playoff hole over Wofford College’s Garrett Medeiros.

Newberry will next compete in the AASU Pirate Invitational in Savannah, Ga. on February 25-26.  The tournament will be hosted by Armstrong Atlantic State University.
