NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry men's golf team capped a successful season with several individual records, as well as a pair of All-Tournament honorees at the South Atlantic Conference Championships. Junior Brian Rush (Duncan, S.C.) and freshman Billy Burrows (Bluffton, S.C.) were named to the SAC Championships All-Tournament team after finishing tied for second and fifth, respectively. The Indians finished second as a team.
Rush shot a second round 70 at the SAC meet, which puts him in a five-way tie for first for individual low 18 holes in Newberry's all-time record book. Rush's two-round total of 143 also puts him tied for first for individual low 36 holes. Finally, Rush's SAC three-round total of 216 places him tied for first for individual low 54 holes. Burrows' three-round score of 219 at the same meet was good enough for a tie for second.
Additionally, four Indian golfers made their mark in the Newberry record book for individual season stroke average. Junior Hunter Mengel (Stone Mountain, Ga.), who paced the Indians with a season average of 75.70 over 15 rounds, took over the top spot, while Rush (76.92/13 rounds) sits at the number four position, junior Daniel Lee (Lincolnton, Ga.) (77.11/18 rounds) is fifth, and Burrows (77.21/14 rounds) rounds out the list at eighth.
