NEWBERRY, S.C. - Junior golfer Brian Rush (Duncan, S.C.) recently added his name to the Newberry men's golf record book after shooting a two-round 144 at the Catawba/Richard Rendleman Invitational on March 6-7 at the Country Club of Salisbury in Salisbury, N.C. This accomplishment puts Rush into a tie for second with fellow junior Hunter Mengel (Stone Mountain, Ga.) and Newberry graduate Michael Wangness for low 36 holes.
Rush's fourth place finish at the invitational led the Indians to a tied for fifth place finish and a 602 overall team score. This team mark ranks tied for fourth in the record book for low 36 holes, a feat the team also accomplished during the 2005-06 fall season at the Johnny Palmer Invitational.
Additionally, Rush’s performance at the Richard Rendleman Invitational was worthy of an All-Tournament Team selection. Rush actually tied with two other golfers for the fourth place spot but went on to win a scorecard playoff to earn him the All-Tournament honors.
Next up for the Indian golfers is the Lenoir-Rhyne/Rock Barn Invitational, which is set to take place March 19-21 in Hickory, N.C.
