NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry men's golf team made a little history earlier this week as they came in second at the Billy Joe Patton Intercollegiate meet in Statesville, N.C.  The team's final total of 588 was good for a new school record.

The Indians were led by junior Hunter Mengel (Stone Mountain, Ga.), whose 36-hole total of 143 tied a school record.  His day-one 70 also tied a school record for low individual round, a feat he has performed two other times.  Additionally, the team's round-one total of 290 was just one stroke off of the school record for team individual round.

Mengel and fellow junior Justin Chrisley (Newberry, S.C.) were selected to the All-Tournament team at the meet.

After a successful fall season, the men look to improve during their spring campaign.  The next tournament for the Indians is scheduled for February 5-7 in Panama City, Fla.
