Wolves face challenges in 2017-18 schedule

NEWBERRY - The Newberry men's basketball team has revealed their game schedule for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

Before the regular season begins, Newberry will travel to the University of Miami to face the Hurricanes in an exhibition game. The Wolves will be in familiar territory having faced South Carolina in an exhibition matchup last year. Newberry fell to the Gamecocks 107-89, but they scored more points against the eventual Final Four participants than any team except Alabama in the Crimson Tide's 90-86 four-overtime win.


The non-conference schedule will kick off Friday, Nov. 10 with back-to-back tournaments hosted at Eleazer Arena. Newberry's home opener is slated against Erskine on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The following day the Wolves with face in-state rival North Greenville at 5:00 p.m.


The Newberry Invitational will take place the following weekend and the Wolves will take on Voorhees at 7:00 p.m.

Newberry will play a total of 20 South Atlantic Conference (SAC) contests with 10 of them taking place at home. The team's conference opener will see the Wolves take on Lenoir-Rhyne on Monday, Nov. 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Eleazer Arena.

Conference road games will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 29 when Newberry travels to Wingate, N.C. to take on the Bulldogs.

January continues conference play with Newberry travelling to Hartsville, S.C. for a matchup with Coker at 8 p.m. before returning home to face Queens. The regular season concludes on Saturday, Feb. 24 against Tusculum at Eleazer Arena.

"We have a challenging schedule, especially with a start at the University of Miami," said Coach Davis. "The SAC is the best league I have coached in my 35-year career with great players and coaches."
