NEWBERRY - Newberry College head men’s basketball coach Dave Davis has announced the signing of 6-foot-1 guard Quaman Burton, of Richmond, Va., to the Wolves' 2016 signing class.

Burton was the captain and lone senior on the 2014 Virginia high school state championship John Marshall HS basketball team that featured several players who have gone on to compete in college. Quaman transfers to Newberry from Division II Lincoln (Pa.) University, where he was named Lincoln University’s team MVP as a sophomore in 2015-16. He was also named CIAA Player of the Week in 2015. Burton made the school’s Dean’s List and won the Scholar Athlete Award while at Lincoln.

“Q is a winner, an extremely hard worker, a competitor and he brings toughness to the game of basketball that our team will really need with the departure of five seniors,” said Davis. “We recruited him hard out of high school at John Marshall, one of the premier programs in the state of Virginia. We are fortunate to land a player who has had a lot of success in both high school and in college where he was the best player on his team at Lincoln. Having Q to go with an All-State in Marshall Lange from North Carolina and Division I transfer Lamell Washington from Maryland is a great start to our recruiting class."
