NEWBERRY – The Newberry Wolves will travel to Charlotte, N.C. to face off against the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte in a South Atlantic Conference matchup. The Wolves faced the Royals early in the season in Eleazer Arena and lost that game by a score of 95-88.

Newberry’s leading scorer was Brandon Taylor as he led the way with 18 points going 7-14 from the field and 4-10 from behind the arc. Xavier Holmes added 13 points on 5-9 shooting with eight rebounds. James Stepp finished with 10 points on 3-12 shooting.

Rob Lewis led the way for the Royals with 23 points going 7-16 from the field with six rebounds, six assists and two steals. Daniel Camps tallied 20 points and nine rebounds, also notched four steals while Kendall Jones finished the night with 19 points.

The Wolves lost to Carson-Newman on Sunday by a score of 91-89 off a last second buzzer beater by the Eagles point guard.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • At the half, Riggs led the team in points with 11 followed by Ashby and Crokett who scored eight each. Holmes grabbed four boards, scored seven points and dished two assists.  
  • At the half as a team, the Wolves shot 83.3% from the line and 42.5% from the field.
  • Gerald Evans and Xavier Holmes led the way for the Wolves with 18 points while Mitch Riggs finished with 14 points.
  • Brandon Taylor contributed 10 points and nine boards with two blocks.
  • The Wolves shot 38.2% for the game while going 28.9% from behind the arc and 80% at the free throw line.
