NEWBERRY - On the day that the Newberry Basketball team went to Huntington, WV and won at Marshall University, a young man by the name of MARSHALL Lange signed to play for the Wolves, Newberry head coach Dave Davis announced. “Sunday was a great day for Newberry Basketball and when Marshall Lange called on the bus ride home and committed to us the day even got better,” said Davis.

Lange is a senior this year at Westchester Country Day in High Point, NC and has scored over 1300 points entering his senior year. As a junior he led his team in assists and was second in scoring, rebounding, steals and field goal percentage. He was a first team Triad Athletic Conference selection and had his best game against Burlington Christian when he had 29 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Westchester coach Dave Carrier says, "Marshall is a great individual talent but what makes him special is his ability to make his teammates better. His love for the game and his teammates is infectious. Marshall's humility shines through in everything he does. He is one of a kind!  I truly believe Marsh will be a difference maker at the next level and shine in Coach Davis's up tempo, attacking system."

Lange began his high school career at Wheatmore High School, in Trinity N.C., where he played for coach David Spell and led the league in scoring (18.8 ppg) and assists (6.8 apg) and added 5.6 rebounds per game. Marshall was the Conference MVP, and made the All-Region Team. “Marshall was our team captain and the leading scorer among point guards in the state of North Carolina and also led the state in assist to turnover ratio (6.8 to 1),” said Spell. “He is a true student of the game. He handles the ball like it is on a string,he is a great decision maker, is very unselfish and makes everyone around him better. Marshall is one of the hardest working athletes I have ever coached, is well respected by his peers and a leader by example. He is one of the most underrated point guards in the country and his best basketball is ahead of him,” added Spell.

‘It is a very big recruiting year for us and to have Marshall Lange as our first guy in is incredible. He is a Division I guard who is a perfect match for the way we play,” said Coach Davis. “Marshall has passion for this game, he is really skilled, he keeps getting better and better and he is unselfish. If he was with us now he would be an impact player and he has another year to prepare. He is a complete player and an outstanding rebounder for a guard, which we need playing four guards all the time. We are thrilled to have him, I am so excited to coach him and he will make us better at Newberry.”
