NEWBERRY - Newberry College head men's basketball coach Dave Davis has announced the signing of two-time all-region player Jaylon Tolbert from Brashier Middle College.
The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 18.7 points per game his senior year and scored over 1,000 points in his career. Jaylon was the four-time MVP at Brashier, which is located in Simpsonville. He scored over 30 points three times his senior year, including a 42 point effort in a win over Mauldin. In the Mauldin game, Tolbert made a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.
"Jaylon was a tremendous leader who strived to make those around him better," Brashier Middle College coach Gordon Stallard said. "He was a pleasure to coach and worked hard to get the most out of his talent."
"We are excited about Jaylon and he has a chance to be a very good player here," said Davis. "He was overlooked in recruiting like most of the guys we land, but he is capable of playing almost anywhere on the floor and with a lot of hard work he could make an impact here."
Tolbert joins Wando's Amp Moore as new additions to the Newberry men's basketball team which won 20 games and finished second in the South Atlantic Conference in 2014-15. The Wolves were nationally ranked for the first time as an NCAA member and regionally ranked all year long.
