INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Following two victories the previous game week, the Newberry Wolves men’s basketball team enters the most recent regional ranking at No. 10.
During the midweek, Newberry earned a 90-85 victory in the Queen City over the Queens Royals on Wednesday. Xavier Holmes tied a career-high of 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor. Hamish Burns also added a career-high 13 points for the Wolves.
On Saturday afternoon the Wolves defeated Mars Hill 79-70 on Senior Day. Demarkus Smith paced the Wolves with 20 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Holmes recorded 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting while Mitch Riggs added 15 points and six rebounds. Brandon Taylor contributed 12 points and five rebounds in the victory.
The Wolves close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon against the Carson-Newman Eagles at 4 p.m. With the win on Wednesday evening against Wingate, Newberry currently sits in sole possession of second place in the South Atlantic Conference.
