WICHITA, Kan. - For the first time since the January 19, the Newberry College men's basketball team has made an appearance in the D2SIDA Southeast Regional Poll. The Wolves enter at No. 10 position, one vote behind ninth place Emmanuel (Ga.).
The Wolves are on a four-game winning streak following their 79-70 victory over the Mars Hill Lions on Saturday afternoon inside Eleazer Arena. Xavier Holmes (Great Falls, S.C.) posted 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting and four rebounds, while Demarkus Smith (Johnston, S.C.) added 20 points to lead the scoring for the Scarlet and Gray.
During the midweek contest, Newberry traveled to Charlotte, N.C. to take on the Queens Royals inside Curry Arena. Powered by 21 points from Holmes, which ties his career-high, four other Wolves contributed double-digit point tallies in the 90-85 victory. Outside of Holmes' performance Gerald Evans (Inglewood, Calif.) added 11 points and seven assists while snagging five rebounds.
Newberry has two contests remaining on the 2014-15 slate as they close out the home portion on Wednesday at 8 p.m. against Wingate then travel to Carson-Newman on Saturday afternoon with tipoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
