AUSTIN, Texas – Mitch Riggs has been named to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-District team for District 3, released on Thursday afternoon by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This award not only recognizes student-athletes for their performance on the court but also inside the classroom.
Riggs is a junior guard from Langwarrin, Victoria, Australia and currently averages 12.5 points per game along with 3.4 rebounds per outing. He is second on the team with 21.7 minutes per game in which he shoots 44.6% from the field. He has recorded five games of 20 or more points and has tallied double digits in 15 of the Wolves’ 21 games this season.
In the classroom, Riggs is studying Physical Education and boasts a 3.69 grade-point average. He is a five-time member of the Newberry College Dean’s List and a three-time member of the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll. He has also earned the Division-II Athletic Director’s Association Academic Achievement Award.
As a result of being selected to this team, Riggs will also be named to the ballot for the Capital One Academic All-America Team where first, second and third teams will be selected by the Academic All-America committee later this month.
