NEWBERRY - The Newberry College men's basketball team fell in its second straight contest on Saturday to the Brevard Tornados, 97-96. The Wolves return home on Wednesday evening against the Coker Cobras.

Against the Tornados Mitch Riggs poured in a career-high 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor. Xavier Holmes notched a season-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Demarkus Smith's four-game 20 plus point streak was halted as he only scored 15 points, while contributing five rebounds. Brevard buried 18 3-point baskets, shooting 47.4% from downtown.

Newberry defeated the Cobras earlier this year, 90-88 in Coker by way of a Smith layup with two seconds remaining. Statstically Coker is led by Errick Bethel with 20.1 points per game, which also leads the South Atlantic Conference. Larry Felder contributes 12.8 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game. Trey James leads the team with 7.2 rebounds while averaging 24.3 minutes per game.

Newberry continues the home stand on Saturday January 24 versus Carson-Newman at 4 p.m. inside Eleazer Arena.
