WICHITA, Kan. - The Newberry College men's basketball team has climbed up two spots in the D2SIDA National Rankings. The Wolves now sit at No. 22 after they defeated the Catawba Indians last Wednesday, 109-98 and an overtime victory on Saturday at Mars Hill, 108-100.
Against Catawba Brandon Taylor notched a career-high 21 points and eight rebounds alongside teammate Demarkus Smith who recorded a team-high 25 points while contributing seven rebounds.
Smith continued to shine for the Wolves against Mars Hill as he scored a career-high 27 points on 9-of-14 from the field and 9-of-11 at the free throw line. Mitch Riggs tallied 21 points along with three assists to help push Newberry passed the Lions in overtime, 108-100.
Newberry continues its conference slate on Wednesday at Lenior-Rhyne with tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m. followed by a matchup on Saturday afternoon at Brevard at 4 p.m.
