DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference has named Demarkus Smith the ECAC Co-Player of the Week for Division II men’s basketball. This honor is the second player of the week for Smith, as he claimed the SAC AstroTurf men’s basketball player of the week, announced yesterday.
Smith averaged 26.0 points per game during Newberry’s two games this past week. He tallied a career-high 27 points in Newberry’s 108-100 overtime victory at Mars Hill on Saturday afternoon. In that contest he also snagged a career-high eight rebounds, contributed two assists and one steal. He shot 9-of-14 from the field and was 9-of-11 at the free throw line in 26 minutes of play.
On Wednesday against Catawba, Smith tallied 25 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor while pouring in 11-of-14 at the charity stripe. He posted seven rebounds and had one steal.
Smith and the Wolves travel to Hickory, North Carolina to face-off against conference foe, Lenoir-Rhyne with tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m.
