WICHITA, Kan. - The Newberry College men's basketball team has maintained its No. 4 ranking in the D2SIDA Regional Poll released weekly on Monday afternoon.
The Wolves defeated the Catawba Indians in midweek action inside Eleazer Arena, 109-98. Newberry was led by Demarkus Smith's 25 points, seven rebounds and Brandon Taylor's career-high 21 points to go along with his career-high eight rebounds. On the weekend contest, the Wolves clawed out a victory on the road against Mars Hill 108-100 in overtime. Smith tallied a career-high 27 points including 6-of-6 from the free throw line in overtime.
Newberry now sits three votes behind Lander for third place, having been 10 votes back in last week's poll. The D2SIDA and NABC National Poll's are scheduled to be released tomorrow afternoon.
Action continues for the Wolves on Wednesday evening as they travel to Hickory, North Carolina to take on conference foe Lenoir-Rhyne at 8 p.m.
